I think it is an understatement to say that writing is the joy of my heart. However, I was not ready at the sweeping emotions that the words could bring as I bring them to my paper – to my laptop, I mean, since I was typing. After praying for her, I read the things she answered on the WOE Poetry Shop Form to customize and personalize her poem and I knew I had to center her poetry about Waterfalls.
I researched about waterfalls and started with how they are formed. When I read this on the National Geographic page: the soft rock erodes, leaving a hard ledge over which the stream falls, it feels like the dam holding the words burst out. I was struggling to grapple on the gush of words. I love the part where it says that waterfalls are made of both soft rocks and hard ledges.
When I finished writing, I just found myself smiling and almost crying. The words are so right on about who she is, as our worship leader, as a sister, as a friend, and most importantly as the daughter of the Living God. She is made to overflow with love, grace, and beauty. That whenever she feels like running out of things to give, she can always go back to her first love – God, who is the source of everything about her.
You are meant to
Overflow.
Just as the river runs endlessly
You pour to others in abundance
Your grace cascades
Along soft and rock, sharp and weak edge
Love, do not despise this flaw
They are the foundation of your ledge
Your strength lies in persistence
Just as the gush of streams
Have the power to erode earth
Keep pushing walls
So flow. Freely. Endlessly.
You are not meant
To contain what you have
So pour. More. Always.
