This person is so dear to my heart. She was one of those few who genuinely celebrated me in my moments of triumph. Also, she is one of those who chose Waterfalls to add to her customized poem. I am again faced with the challenge of viewing waterfall in a different perspective. In addition to prayers, my connection with her helped me in crafting this poem. I will never forget our conversation during our Women’s Monthly Gathering when we both found out that we shared childhood events.
This is how I got the first three words of the poem. The image of the rivers and waterfalls came next and I was reminded of their essence as they are made to contain the powerful force of water. Indeed, situations have to happen in our lives so our lives can contain the living waters and allow it to overflow to others. Writing this poem is also a revelation for me as I am slowly understanding that I am defined by the living waters in me and not my cracks and dents. Just like the rivers and waterfalls which will not be called as such if it was not for the water flowing through them.
Rivers without the flowing water
Are just cracks and dents on the earth
Waterfall lakes without the gushes
Are just deep empty holes
Imagine a life as they are – dry, lifeless
Without the overflow.
But love, you are created
To contain living waters.
Cracks and dents on your life
Are testimonies that you are a vessel –
Proofs that you can hold the overflow
From the God of abundance
Love, remember, water makes a river
It is the same with you –
God defines who you are
As He pours more unto you.
